Maybe it’s just growing pains…

Our legislators must be in some sort of young adult rebellious, “Nothing can hurt me” type phase. You know… the time of life when only today and what “I” want matters and the understanding of consequence is yet to be understood. Think about it in this one regard… we’ve all heard the stories about young adults being offered preapproved credit cards and accounts. Even Oprah’s done a show or two on the subject:

First, the young adult sees “Preapproved”, realizes they don’t need to actually have the money to buy something they want (Score!) and sends away for their new card/account.   Maybe they are just starting college, living away from home, getting some help from Mom & Dad to get by, working part-time… pretty normal, right? “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” The Wizard of Oz

Right now there is a whole lot of talk about Socialism, Conservatism, Liberalism, Democratic, Republican, Iran, Iraq, Liberty, Freedom, Coups, (Domestic) Terrorism, Global Warming, Sarah Palin, Michael Jackson… you get the idea. On the day Michael Jackson died, America’s Congress quietly passed the Cap and Trade Bill. Voting on this Legislation without thoroughly studying its contents, thereby betraying their Constitutional Oaths, 219 individuals entrusted to speak on our behalf disregarded our concerns… and the vast majority of America either didn’t know or didn’t care.

While our Democracy was being undermined, Main Stream Media focused on a Pop Icon’s passing. The largest national tax Bill in U.S. history was approved by Congress while pedophile laden jokes coursed through our fiber-optic veins and images of “Thriller” danced in our heads. There really is no question now as to why we are in the position we’re in. What played out that day spells it out.
